In 2011, we doubled the size of the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds. While most of that land won’t be used until later, you’ll see the first big changes this year in the form of a bigger entrance/exit for better traffic flow and trams that will run in daytime AND in the evening.
The main entrance for parking is going to be farther east than in the past, but what you’ll get for the extra drive is a four-lane gate, labeled as Gate 7, that is wider than the old main entrance at Gate 5.
Not only will the larger gate enable more traffic to flow, it will also open up into more parking spaces than ever before.
We won’t leave you hanging, either. While parking is farther from the main entrance into the fairgrounds (Gate G, northeast of the grandstands), there are all-new, fenced-in dedicated tram routes. Not only will the trams get you from your car to the gate, because they’re separate from any traffic, they’ll also get you back to your car, even at night.
In the past, we had to stop the trams due to safety concerns as traffic picked up when concerts, the rodeo, the tractor pull or the demolition derby got out. The new routes eliminate that problem.
