In 2011, the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Board acquired additional acreage (to total 384) for $1.4 million dollars. In 2012, due to generous community support, we were blessed to have that debt paid in full. In 2013 and 2014, Phase 1 of the Land Development Projects were identified. These $1.2 million dollars’ worth of improvements were selected to improve and enhance our faithful guests’ experiences.
- Emergency siren and public address system;
- Two additional restroom facilities;
- Additional parking, interior roadways and tram routes; and
- Grandstand seating expansion and improvements
These completed projects were all unveiled at the 2014 Elkhart County 4-H Fair to the 280,000+ guests that visited during our annual 9-day Fair. All much needed and truly appreciated improvements to our facility, these were all very well received.
In 2015, we:
- Installed fiber optics and wifi for use by 4-H families, Fair guests, Fair vendors and the many RV Rallies that the Fairgrounds hosts each year;
- Significantly widened the Gate 7 entrance,
- Added temporary Fair week campsites; and
- Constructed a timber bridge that crosses Rock Run Creek.
These projects were unveiled prior to July 24, 2015, the opening day of the Elkhart County 4-H Fair.
In March, 2016, the 3rd Adult Prom Fundraiser was held. It was announced that evening that all net proceeds from the event would be designated to the permanent roadway that crosses the Rock Run Creek bridge. That roadway allowed us to create a new and much needed additional entrance and exit point on C.R. 36. Thanks to the overwhelming support from our community members and Prom guests, that project was completed prior to opening day of the 2016 Elkhart County 4-H Fair and Dr. Robert Zell held an official ribbon cutting at the project site!
The 4th Annual Elkhart County 4-H Fair Board Adult Prom Fundraiser will take place March 18th, 2017. Since we’re blessed with a large number of active 4-H members, we’ve realized a need to create a more user-friendly show arena. This addition will allow us to hold multiple livestock shows and auctions simultaneously in addition to improving ventilation as well as the opportunity to host local and regional non-Fair livestock shows and other events. Due to the size and estimated cost of the structure, this open air show pavilion will be a multi-year fundraising effort. However, that doesn’t lessen the enthusiasm we have for this project and we’re excited to have the opportunity to work toward the goal of providing this much needed facility for Elkhart County 4-H!
